Andy Warhol Effect

I experimented with Pedro to create an Andy Warhol type of image. First, I put a threshold effect on each image. Next, I colored each white section. I decided to leave his eyes blank, though.

Pedro - Dominican Republic

I did a project similar to this last year, only this year the child was from the Dominican Republic instead of Rwanda. This boy's name is Pedro. I wanted to give Pedro something back that included some forms of art media, but I also did not want to distort his face too much. To create this look, I added a photo of a Dominican Republic landscape behind Pedro's head. Then, I made each layer look as if it were painted over with watercolors. It was a very simple project, but I think Pedro will really appreciate it.

One Can Make a Difference

For the third and final part of our Rwanda collection, we were asked to chose a theme from the movie and create a series of six different works that represent that theme. I chose to represent the theme of one man standing out and making a difference. To represent this theme, I tried to find as many things as possible that could stand out in a crowd or represent a change. I also incorporated some of the crops or elements that showed up throughout the film, such as the machete. In addition, the real man that made a difference can be seen in a few of these images. Enjoy!

TOGETHER

This image I created as another part of the Hotel Rwanda series the class is working on. I used the word "together" because the movie is about a man that tried to bring the country together and end the madness. I also chose this word because all the pain and suffering had to be endured together among families and friends.

Hotel Rwanda

In class we watched the very powerful and inspiring movie Hotel Rwanda. Afterward we were assigned to create a movie poster. I found it very difficult to convey the intensity of this movie, however I tried my best. A machete was used as a key prop in the film, so I used that as a backdrop for the title. Below the title are the names of the three main actors.

Greedy Hands

This assignment was one that stumped me. For days I struggled with how to organize a collage of hands. Then, I thought about how hands are greedy, always grabbing and reaching for food or drinks. I picked my favorite soda and glorified it and surrounded it by a variety of hands. The hands were edited through filters and other special effects. As a final touch, I added two words that echoed the mood of this collage and faded them out to 22 percent.

Photo Montage - Blue Crab

Of all my digital imaging projects, I have never had one that took as long to make as this image did. What I did was simple, but it took a lot of time because there was a lot of repetition. Matching the colors on the original crab, I filled the entire crap with a variety of photos. I had to overlap, erase, shape, and place the images strategically to create the crab. Finally, after I finished the montage, I added a couple filters to the entire image as finishing touches.

250 Years of Charlottesville

This project was created to celebrate how far the city of Charlottesville has come. I included factors that had changed a lot over the years and split the image to compare and contrast different elements.

Gay-Straight Alliance Advertisement: NoH8 Campaign

My teacher gave me an assignment to help out the GSA by forming a poster for their new campaign, NoH8. I decided to go with a simple, yet effective theme for the poster; I made the photo black and white, then brought out the red on the "8" in the picture. Then, I chose a few fonts that made sense and could have an impact on the viewer.

More Nature

Here are some more images of objects in nature that I experimented with. Enjoy!

Student Planner

For this assignment, we had to design a planner for our school in hopes of maybe using the design next year. To create mine, I selected a template from those we were provided. Then, I colored in each of the parts with our school colors. I filled the white bubbles with our mascot and symbol. Finally, I added the text and curved the smaller sections.
